Kansas City Alumni Workshop

“Shift Happens: Understanding Mind-Body Cues"

Monday, August 12, 2019

Presenter: Alicia Jones, LSCSW, LCSW, LMAC, SEP

Event Description:

Discover how Somatic Experiencing™ (SE®) supports greater attunement to your body and instincts to strengthen your ability to self-regulate. Studies have shown that disconnection and/or trauma can lead to addiction and impulsive behaviors. The key to SE® is remembering that trauma is not the event itself, but the experience of the event held in your body. Through SE®, one gains a more intimate understanding of their nervous system and the body’s responses. These responses show up in our emotions, behaviors, sensations and biographies. Understanding this and the shifts that happen with self-regulation can strengthen one’s capacity to grow in recovery.

Bio:

As a leading Somatic Experiencing™ (SE®) psychotherapist, Alicia Jones, LSCSW, LCSW, LMAC, SEP, offers counseling sessions in Overland Park, KS. She earned both her undergraduate degree in psychology & master of social work (MSW) degree from the University of Kansas. Alicia’s therapeutic approach supports working from the bottom up (working with body sensation), rather than the top down (traditional talk therapy) to invite the body into the therapeutic process. She specializes in working with people who may be dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma history, PTSD, substance use disorder and/or similar concerns with adults and teens.
