Learn More About Drug Addiction Treatment

Learn more about drug addiction treatment at Sierra Tucson

The continued use of drugs and/or alcohol, despite the ongoing occurrence of problems as a direct result, is known as substance use disorder—mild, moderate or severe. The harmful or perilous use of substances can lead to the development of behavioral, cognitive, and physiological changes that result in an individual having a strong craving (psychological or physiological) for his or her substance of choice and an inability to control its use. If not properly treated, substance abuse can result in serious health, relationship, employment, and legal ramifications. As the best substance abuse treatment center, Sierra Tucson fully recognizes that the road to recovery and sobriety is a long one that is often filled with challenges. Our specialized drug and alcohol addiction treatment and rehabilitation is designed to make this process as comfortable as possible. By engaging in our comprehensive addiction treatment, individuals who are struggling with substance abuse and addiction can develop the skills needed not only to break the cycle of addiction, but to maintain life-long sobriety as well.

How to Help a Loved One

Helping a loved one get treatment & rehab for drug addiction

If you believe that a close friend or family member has a substance abuse problem, it is important to take the necessary steps to get your loved one the life-saving treatment he or she needs. While you can offer your loved one support and encouragement, you cannot force him or her to get treatment and remain sober. Below are some tips that may assist you in encouraging your loved one to choose a life of sobriety, while also maintaining your overall wellbeing:

  • Express your concerns to your loved one about his or her substance abuse, offering love and support, while at the same time being nonjudgmental. Be prepared to be met with denial, yet provide your loved one with specific information about his or her destructive behaviors.
  • Learn all you can about addiction, including the symptoms and the recovery process. Being armed with information will allow you more insight into your loved one’s substance abuse problem and what you can do to better support him or her.
  • Set boundaries for your loved one and let him or her know the behaviors you will not tolerate. When you set these limits, be sure to stick to them so your loved one knows you are serious.
  • While seeking treatment options for your loved one, seek support for yourself as well. Supporting someone who has substance abuse problems can be emotionally and physically draining. At times you may need someone with whom you can talk to process the emotions you are experiencing.
  • Finally, be patient. Recovery is a process, not an event.

Why Consider Treatment

Why consider treatment for drug addiction at Sierra Tucson

The continued use of drugs and/or alcohol can have profound effects on a person’s life and family, causing a multitude of negative consequences. And while each drug can produce different symptoms, every aspect of a person’s life will begin to suffer after a prolonged period of abuse. Some of the dangerous and damaging complications that can develop may include the contraction of a communicable disease, such as HIV, or the development of both short- and long-term physical health problems. As a person’s substance of choice begins to take over his or her life, he or she may begin to neglect responsibilities at work and at home, which can lead to loss of one’s job and the development of financial difficulties. Additionally, those who abuse substances often have family problems as a result of behavioral changes and other symptoms associated with substance abuse. Finally, those who abuse drugs and/or alcohol are more likely than others to meet an untimely death due to accidents or health issues.

Types of Treatment

Types of drug addiction treatment offered at Sierra Tucson

As an internationally known and respected treatment provider of medical, therapeutic, and experiential services, Sierra Tucson is pleased to offer state-of-the-art treatment for a wide range of behavioral health concerns. We pride ourselves on being a leading provider of evidence-based practices and integrative therapies that are effective in treating addictions and other behavioral health problems. At Sierra Tucson, a premier rehab center for substance abuse, our primary goal is to deliver services in such a manner that all who come to us for treatment will enjoy a healthy and productive lifestyle.

Our substance abuse treatment center includes a secure behavioral health inpatient unit located in the center of our treatment center campus. Residents who require immediate stabilization due to the presence of psychiatric concerns or those who are in need of medical detoxification services can receive these interventions prior to engaging in Sierra Tucson’s residential care. When residents present to our rehab with drugs and/or alcohol in their system, the first step in their treatment may be to undergo the medical detox services offered at our inpatient program to safely rid their body of the toxic substance(s). Medical personnel monitor this period of detoxification to ensure individuals remain safe and comfortable throughout the process. Residents will also engage in a number of therapeutic interventions during their time in inpatient treatment. Following detox and completion of treatment their first phase, residents will engage in comprehensive treatment at our premier behavioral health residential rehab center.

Treatment for substance abuse concerns is delivered through the Addiction Recovery Program at our treatment center. Offered within our behavioral health residential treatment center, services supplied in this treatment are designed to elicit the most favorable outcomes for all residents. Our reputation as a leading drug addiction rehab center stems from the clinical excellence and the best, compassionate care that we deliver to everyone who seeks our services. Our holistic approach to treatment respects the dignity of each individual while offering a therapeutic environment that is fully conducive to healing the mind, body, and spirit. Treatment focuses on addressing each resident’s presenting problems, as well as underlying issues that exacerbate his or her struggles. It is our belief that, as residents gain new communication skills and learn to build healthy relationships, they can make sound decisions for a better quality of life and form deeper connections with others.

Using a bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach to care, residents in the Addiction Recovery treatment plan can partake in the following treatment modalities:

Medication management: When individuals at our rehab are struggling with the presence of a co-occurring disorder in addition to substance use disorder, the implementation of psychotropic medications may be incorporated into their overall plan of care. The need for such medications, however, is always determined on a case-by-case basis. Residents who are engaged in the Addiction Recovery treatment plan will have the opportunity to meet with either a psychiatrist or qualified physician at a minimum of once per week so that any medications that have been prescribed can be monitored for therapeutic effectiveness and any necessary changes can be made.

Individual therapy: Master’s-level clinicians and/or licensed psychologists at our treatment center offer individual therapy sessions with residents at least once every week. Each resident’s primary therapist will be assigned to him or her depending upon the identified presenting concerns, the therapeutic approach that will be used to effectively address those concerns, and the specific training that the therapist possesses. These sessions occur in a confidential, one-on-one setting where the resident is afforded the opportunity to discuss his or her progress in treatment, address any concerns that may arise, and process through various feelings that he or she may be experiencing.

Group therapy: At the time that residents are admitted into the Addiction Recovery treatment plan at our rehab, they are assigned to a small group of peers who are engaged in the same treatment. This group will meet together for therapy sessions several times per week. In addition to serving as a general process group, topics that are covered during these group sessions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Grief and loss
  • Relapse prevention
  • Healing anxiety
  • Anger management
  • Psychodrama
  • Shame and resilience
  • Didadic lectures

Four-Day Family Program: Recognizing the important role of loved ones in the lives of residents, our substance abuse rehab includes Family Week, a four-day experience for family members and other close identified loved ones of residents. Family Week typically occurs during a resident’s third week at Sierra Tucson and allows loved ones to engage in the therapeutic process, practice healthy communication, and set boundaries with understanding and support. Family members and loved ones can attend psycho-educational lectures, process groups, and a family dinner that can unify a family unit in a powerful way. Lastly, loved ones can remain in contact with a resident’s primary therapist should questions or concerns arise during the course of treatment.

Therapeutic & recreational activities: In order to help residents at our substance abuse and drug addiction treatment center build a stronger sense of self and increased confidence as they overcome their substance abuse concerns, this treatment offers a myriad of therapeutic activities, which are conducted on a daily or weekly basis. A resident’s participation in such activities will be outlined in his or her treatment plan and may include the following:

  • Expressive art
  • Equine therapy
  • Adventure therapy (including a ropes course and rock wall)
  • Yoga
  • Psychodrama

Additional services: To fully care for the needs of those who are working through an addiction to drugs and/or alcohol, as well as any co-occurring conditions, we at our treatment center are proud to offer a number of additional services through an innovative approach to treatment. Special time is set aside for selected individual appointments, which will be outlined in one’s treatment plan to address individualized needs. Such services may include, but are not limited to:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
  • Somatic Experiencing® (SE)
  • Psychological testing
  • Biofeedback
  • Acupuncture
  • Mindfulness meditation
  • Personal training
  • Massage
  • Salon

Furthermore, residents engaged in the care delivered through the drug addiction recovery treatment plan will be provided with educational lectures and participate in 12-Step meetings and/or Smart Recovery. Each day will end on a positive note by allowing residents to gather together and reflect through a Gifts and Blessings Ceremony.

Should a resident require stabilization services while engaged in our rehab’s residential treatment, he or she is able to partake in the inpatient services before returning to residential treatment. The staff of professionals conducts an ongoing assessment of each resident’s progress and needs and offers assistance in making this transition smooth so as to continue the process of healing with as little disruption as possible.

Continuing Care

Continuing care and levels of treatment for drug addiction

Drug addiction treatment at Sierra Tucson includes thorough discharge planning and continuing care services that are second to none. Once a resident engages in services to treat substance abuse and co-occurring conditions at our substance abuse rehab, a comprehensive continuing care plan is devised so he or she can remain successful once treatment is complete. He or she meets with continuing care staff to assess his or her needs and plan for discharge. Once in our residential treatment center, the individual meets with the same continuing care staff, as well as the local treatment placement specialist (TPS), and participates in lectures and one-on-one planning sessions to ensure quality referrals and establish any follow-up appointments that may be required upon discharge.

Furthermore, residents exiting residential treatment, along with their family members, can benefit from Connect365, our signature year-long service that helps to bridge the gap between residential treatment and life in recovery. Connect365 is offered at no additional cost and includes a personal recovery coach, a recovery management system via a mobile app, and ongoing encouragement from the participant’s support team. Residents connect with their recovery coach during treatment in order to build a strong rapport with him or her prior to discharge.

Lastly, former residents can take part in our treatment center’s Alumni Relations. These services, which are offered for a lifetime, include support groups throughout the country, workshops, social activities, and the annual Alumni Retreat.

If you or a loved one wishes to receive the premier care that has improved the lives of many individuals who have struggled with substance use disorder and co-occurring conditions, look no further than our substance abuse treatment center. We can help.

Sierra Tucson has turned my life around 180 degrees. Every aspect of my life is greatly improved and enhanced!
