Outpatient Program

Sierra Tucson offers outpatient programming. Individuals have the ability to slowly transition back to their home environments while still benefiting from education, support and encouragement through different therapeutic interventions.

Where Change Continues

Sierra Tucson’s Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) services are designed to help participants identify and live by their values in recovery and have accountability after residential care. In addition, the programs include the ability to receive psychoeducation that helps participants implement skills and return to their daily lives more grounded and oriented to the present moment.

Levels of Care

Located within our Copper Sky Building, the Sierra Tucson Outpatient Program serves participants who have mood disorders, unresolved trauma and co-occurring disorders. It is available for those who are stepping down from residential treatment, as well as those within the community. Participants complete a minimum of four weeks in the PHP before transitioning to the IOP for continued care.

Therapy

Therapies are offered to residents based on a customized plan created by Sierra Tucson’s on-site clinicians and doctors. View a complete list of therapy options by clicking here.

Common Questions

How long is it?

We recommend two weeks at the PHP level of care and then four weeks at the IOP level of care. This is a general recommendation, and sometimes it may be different depending on the person and individual circumstances.

How many people in a group?

We currently have eight to 10 people in a process group, and sometimes the two groups will be together for PHP groups.

How frequently do I see a psychiatric provider and my primary therapist for individual sessions?

Once a week for each while in PHP. In IOP, the psychiatric provider is on an as-needed basis, and the primary therapist is once a week.

I am on medication-assisted treatment and wonder if I can continue that in your program?

If this is something you started in residential or have been doing prior to admission to our program, it is something we can continue while in our PHP/IOP.

Sierra on Campus Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

The Sierra on Campus Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a collaborative initiative between Sierra Tucson and The University of Arizona, designed to support students who need additional mental health care while remaining active in campus life. Delivered directly on campus, the program provides in-depth support for concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use, offering practical tools and strategies students can use immediately. Visit the Sierra on Campus Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) page on The University of Arizona website to learn more.
