Title: Cannabis & Cannabis Use Disorder: What Behavioral Health Professionals Need to Know
Presenter: Bari K Platter, MS, RN, PMHCNS-BC. FIAAN

Cannabis, which has been legalized for both medical and recreational use in Colorado, has been marketed to be a helpful, benign substance. In reality, there is a plethora of research that shows that regular cannabis use, particularly with vulnerable populations (adolescents, people with mental health disorders and people with substance use disorders) can have significant consequences. This presentation will focus on the common effects and side effects of cannabis use, limitations of research that demonstrate efficacy associated with cannabis use and the dangers of supporting dispensary workers in making recommendations about cannabis use. Cannabis Use Disorder will also be discussed and the presenter will share her clinical experience in working with clients with Cannabis Use Disorder.

Objectives:
*Describe demographics related to cannabis use in CO and the US
*Explain the endocannabinoid system and physiological effects of THC/Cannabis use
*Review the consequences of cannabis use with vulnerable populations
*Discuss treatment approaches related to problematic cannabis use and Cannabis Use Disorder
