Title: The Mature Adult and Addiction

Presenter: Jerome Lerner, MD, Director of Professionals Program

Description:

Mature adulthood offers multiple stressors – aging, illness, loss of friends and family, retirement, empty nesting, unscheduled free time – any or all of which require new strategies of self-care and support in order to sustain resilience throughout life’s many changes.  This talk explores how to reduce the risks of substance abuse and addiction, and enhance the opportunities for growth and fulfillment.

About the Presenter:

As Director of Sierra Tucson’s Licensed Professionals and Executives Program, Jerry Lerner, MD. brings together expertise in integrative healthcare, addiction, pain recovery, trauma, and executive leadership. He previously served as director of Sierra Tucson’s Pain Recovery Program and Chief Medical Officer. Wisconsin born and raised, Dr. Lerner received his medical education and specialty training at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, and is a diplomat of the American Academy of Pain Management. He is board certified in Addiction Medicine.

In addition to his medical and psychiatric training and experience, he has studied and trained in myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, osteopathic manipulation, mindfulness meditation, nutrition, life coaching, and trauma recovery. His treatment philosophy is to serve as a guide and facilitator, bringing together knowledge and appreciation of medical, recovery, rehabilitation, and alternative strategies to serve individuals with substance use disorder, mood disorders, trauma or pain.

Over his three-decade career, he has served as medical director in hospital, clinic, and program settings. His passion is to create and work with high-functioning treatment teams toward creating healing environments with an integrative, whole-person approach to recovery. With an enthusiasm for leading-edge wellness, resilience, and recovery techniques, he has a great love for teaching and sharing ideas, and offers an extensive portfolio of presentations, lectures, and workshops. He likes to believe that his lifelong love of the arts, and for the piano in particular, helps keep his left and right brain processes balanced and open.
