Title: "Today's Fire Service, Do you Really know what we Actually do"
Presenters: Brett W. Corris, LAP-C, NCAC-I, Professional Firefighter, IAFF Local 944 and Marc D. Ruggiero, Professional Firefighter, IAFF Local 944
Description: We will discuss modern demands on the fire service in general. Not only is our profession very physically demanding, there is also major mental stressors involved. This presentation will cover various aspects of the fire culture, daily life on duty and the types of emergencies we handle. We will also discuss current resources available to first responders, should help be needed for mental and behavioral issues, as well as the need for fire service cultural change when asking for and seeking help. Counselors and Therapists will have a better understanding of the fire service culture and be better equipped to address behavioral health needs.
