Barbara Trejo, MSW
Specialty Therapist
Barbara Trejo MSW, was born and raised in Arizona. She graduated from Arizona State University, School of Social work – GO DEVILS! She chose to study Social Work after she went through recovery herself. She was inspired by her peers, mentors, and loved ones to continue in the realm of treatment and recovery, but in a different role. She found her place in the field of mental and behavioral health. She has had a culmination of life experiences, both personal and professional, that have helped to enhance her clinical skills as a therapist. Barbara has solely taken on the Positive Psychology curriculum and is grateful for the opportunity to bring the evidence-based interventions found within to the residents at Sierra Tucson. Barbara is also trained and certified in DBT and Janina Fisher’s-Transforming the Living Legacy of Trauma. Barbara is always searching for ways to learn and grow professionally and personally. Barbara’s focus and passion lie within trauma-centered care and co-occurring disorders. She will often utilize experiential exercises and modalities to create awareness in action. She uses humor and humility to normalize a resident’s experiences. She is a firm believer in “slower is faster” and “nothing changes if nothing changes”. Barbara is appreciative of the holistic approach provided at Sierra Tucson. She recognizes the importance of treating “the whole person”.
