Join Sierra Tucson & Acadia Healthcare's Treatment Placement Specialists® for the 2020 Professional Development Series featuring Shari Simmons, MSW, LCSW. This live presentation will provide insight on the impact of trauma of brain circuitry and personality development, and how trauma can create coping strategies that may appear maladaptive but are actually rooted in survival. Participants will learn interventions for how to effectively work with individuals who have a history of complex trauma. This presentation also includes the discussion of a specific case study which illuminates the possible impact of trauma on an individual and the family system.

Shari Simmons, MSW, LCSW, has been a therapist and has managed several mental health treatment centers and psychiatric facilities over her 30 year career. She has spent the last 10 years consulting and training therapists, counselors and CEO’s on how to implement evidence-based practices and trauma ingrained care. She is currently the Executive Director of Fire Mountain Treatment Center and is an Adjunct Professor at several universities, where she teaches Crisis/Trauma, Psychopathology and Management/Administration. Shari is co-author of Which Way?, a memoir and psychological handbook for clinicians and those who have experienced trauma and travels the country dispelling myths about mental illness. She has a podcast on the Mental Health News Radio Network that celebrates the resiliency of the human spirit.
