Suicide, depression, and addiction have a very close and interconnected relationship impacting professionals, veterans, musicians, and a myriad of other individuals who appear to “have it all”. This presentation will explore causes, theories, and treatment approaches for those who struggle with suicidal ideations and their family members.

Objectives:

1.    Identify the key indicators for suicide according to latest research.
2.    Identify risk factors of suicide for those in all stages of recovery.
3.    Explain the significance Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) when assessing for suicide risk.
4.    Define the role of neurobiology and link to serotonin and stress response system for those who suffer with depression and addiction and why suicide becomes an option.

Jaime Vinck, MC, LPC, NCC is CEO of The Sierra Tucson Group where she oversees Sierra Tucson (Tucson, Ariz), Sunrise Ranch (Newport Beach, CA), and Sierra by the Sea (Riverside, CA). Jaime has introduced groundbreaking outcomes measurement and recovery programs that have earned Sierra Tucson top recognition within and outside the industry.

One of those programs, Connect365, provides support through an industry-leading app that helps individuals stay connected and engaged, while also providing one-on-one access to a nationally-certified recovery coach. In 2019 Jaime oversaw a major campus extension at Sierra Tucson with the building of Copper Sky, a 30,000 square-foot facility that offers both residential and trauma-focused outpatient services for high-acuity patients with severe mental illness. As the first major expansion at Sierra Tucson in a decade, Copper Sky was built with Jaime’s unique perspective of how a therapeutic environment can help patients progress safely toward recovery with a focus on concentrated and customized care.

Jaime has been recognized as a mentor to women in leadership positions both internally at Sierra Tucson and within the industry. She was named Licensed Professional Champion as part of the 2018 Women of Influence Awards sponsored by Inside Tucson Business and in 2019 was named as one of Arizona’s Most Influential Women by AZ Business Magazine. Jaime has regularly been named one of the top leaders in AZ in both Healthcare and Behavioral health and serves on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers.

An industry advocate, she speaks nationally and internationally on trending topics, including suicide, addiction & depression, provider resilience and collaborative care. Audiences include recovery professionals as well as government entities such as at the All Parliamentary Meeting, House of Commons in the U.K. While Jaime uses speaking engagements to advance information, education, and innovation within the recovery field, she also is an adept spokesperson bringing the message of recovery through national consumer media.

Jaime is also the founder of Hoofprints to Healing™, an equine psychotherapy program targeted at addressing the emotions underlying addiction. Her passion for horses and their role in behavioral health solutions has been instrumental in expanding Sierra Tucson’s equine-assisted therapy program, which is part of the facility’s integrative therapies used to treat depression, addiction, trauma, complex pain, and co-occurring disorders.

Jaime holds a bachelor’s degree in employee relations from Michigan State University; a master’s degree in professional counseling from Ottawa University.
