Katie Smith, BA, RYT-500

Yoga Instructor

Katie Smith joined the Sierra Tucson team in April 2018 as a Residential Coach, integrating safety, accountability, and support for all residents. Katie’s role transitioned into the Experiential Therapy team and she has served as the yoga instructor since October 2019. In an effort to support the best practice of yoga, Katie has received both her 200-hour and 300-hour yoga teacher certification, making her an RYT-500.

Utilizing a trauma-informed approach to yoga, Katie strives to provide a safe, supportive, and welcoming space for residents to freely explore the practice of yoga. Katie offers a variety of yoga classes which encompass yoga for the Red, White, and Blue program, the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as offering gentle, intermediate, and advanced yoga classes for all residents at Sierra Tucson.

In 2017, Katie received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, with an emphasis in Sociology and Family & Human Development from Arizona State University. Katie is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Social Work at Arizona State University. Her goal is to use her experience in trauma-informed yoga as a tool within her future social work practice.

The time spent at Sierra Tucson was the true beginning of my journey. Not only did I overcome my addictions, but I began to focus on the root causes that created my compulsions. I understand myself so much better now.
