Emily Enderson

Primary Therapist

As a Primary Therapist for the PHP/IOP program, Emily Endreson is an Arizona Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor and a nationally Registered Board Certified Art Therapist who specializes in integrating art therapy as an effective modality within the addictions field. At Sierra Tucson, she facilitates action-oriented groups that invite residents to channel their emotions creatively and discover new strengths and perspectives.

She has employed the transformative power of the arts in a variety of settings, including treatment facilities, schools, conferences, workshops, community events and private practice. Art Therapy has been credited with helping those struggling with substance abuse disorder by decreasing denial, reducing opposition to alcoholism treatment, providing an outlet for communication, and lessening shame.

Emily earned her master’s at New York University after completing internships at New York City’s Bellevue Hospital and North Central Bronx Montefiore Medical Center. She honed her craft of blending psychodynamic and developmental approaches with Art Therapy in San Francisco where Emily coordinated the Creative Arts Therapy Program at McAuley Neuropsychiatric Institute. She went on to direct the Graduate Art Therapy Program at Emporia State University in Kansas before moving to Tucson.

Emily nurtures strength and hope through play, reminding patients that they are more than their addictions or traumas. Her warm, eclectic approach complements her use of an amalgam of therapeutic techniques to encourage personal growth and facilitate healing emotional wounds. In her personal time, Emily can be found in her studio, strolling through art museums, or appreciating live, one-person performances.

The time spent at Sierra Tucson was the true beginning of my journey. Not only did I overcome my addictions, but I began to focus on the root causes that created my compulsions. I understand myself so much better now.
