Outpatient Assessment Services
For over 25 years, Sierra Tucson has provided innovative inpatient assessment and treatment programs. New Outpatient Assessment Services allow those who do not require inpatient care to benefit from our highly sophisticated assessment resources.
The Assessment and Diagnostic Program (ADP) is now available as an outpatient service—with or without Brain SPECT Imaging.
A variety of “a la carte” assessment services are offered, including Brain SPECT Imaging in conjunction with Psychiatric Evaluation, Psychological Testing, and Psychiatric Consultations.

Assessment & Diagnostic Program - Outpatient
Sierra Tucson’s renowned Assessment and Diagnostic Program (ADP) is offered as either an inpatient program or outpatient service. The inpatient ADP typically requires 4 1/2 days; the outpatient service may be accomplished in as little as 1 to 3 days, depending on the complexity of the testing required. Both inpatient and outpatient services utilize the full range of resources available at our facility to provide a more comprehensive assessment than would be possible in most other clinical settings.

Is Inpatient or Outpatient best for me?
The inpatient ADP provides the safety and structure of Sierra Tucson’s world-class treatment facility. Full-time medical and clinical staff are on site for behavioral and psychological support. The patient also has an opportunity to experience the treatment community, attend select groups and classes, and has access to some ancillary services.
Outpatient assessment is convenient for those who are behaviorally and medically stable. The outpatient pricing and shorter time frame make this in-depth assessment more affordable and available.

How thorough are ADP evaluations?
Sierra Tucson’s ADP provides psychiatric and mental health psychological evaluations, plus specialty consultations may address the areas of nutrition, recreation/fitness, pain, addiction, trauma/grief/loss, spirituality, biofeedback/stress, and relationship/family issues. Services may be offered as a package or a la carte. Testing is based on each person’s assessment needs.

Brain SPECT Imaging - Outpatient
Brain SPECT Imaging is an optional part of the ADP, whether inpatient or outpatient.
As one of Sierra Tucson's Outpatient Assessment Services, SPECT scans are always combined with a Psychiatric Evaluation, which interprets the scan in relation to the person's clinical history.
SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) scans produce vivid, three-dimensional pictures of brain physiology. SPECT Imaging gives clinically useful information on how an individual’s brain is functioning and adds biological information to the presenting problem, which can assist in evaluation and treatment.

What if additional testing is necessary?
Occasionally, additional specific testing may be deemed necessary. Through Sierra Tucson’s affiliations within the local medical community, specialized testing such as MRIs, EEGs, or sleep studies may be utilized. Additional test results are incorporated into the final report prepared by the Sierra Tucson multidisciplinary
assessment/treatment team.

What about the assessment results?
Upon completion of the evaluation process, a multidisciplinary team, consisting of physicians (psychiatrists and addictionologists), psychologists, therapists, and other licensed specialists, reviews assessment data and prepares an integrated diagnostic report. The result is a comprehensive written report complete with treatment recommendations.
A round-table feedback session is provided to the patient, the referring professional, and, when appropriate, family members or legal/professional supervisory personnel. Teleconference is available for those who cannot attend in person.

Who should utilize Sierra Tucson's ADP?
Sierra Tucson has been very successful in working with State Boards and professional organizations. Our experience has shown that, at some point, every physician or clinician encounters a patient who would benefit from a comprehensive evaluation due to diagnostic uncertainty, complexity, denial, or legal issues. Evaluations can be requested by an individual or as a second opinion by a professional therapist or physician.
