Sierra Tucson and Sober Living by the Sea Presents:

"Attachment Theory & the Need for Connection"

July 11, 2018

Presenter: Jim Gerber, Phd

Event Description:
In this presentation we will learn about attachment theory. Attachment theory has been a dynamic area of research in the past fifty years that can shed light on the struggles that interfere in many people’s lives. The attachment in attachment theory refers to the innate human need for connection and security. At the most basic level the attachment system improves the chances for the survival of the species. However, recent research provides evidence that the attachment system is central to the development of the individual. This is seen in areas such as self-esteem, emotional regulation and interpersonal relationships. The goals of this presentation are 1) to understand the significance of attachment theory as it relates to difficulties in life such as addictions, compulsions and other ingrained maladaptive traits. 2) Participants will have the opportunity to gain insight into their own attachment patterns which includes patterns of relating and core beliefs. 3) Participants will learn strategies that can be used to revise patterns beliefs and habitual behaviors that interfere with life satisfaction.
