"Rising from a Fall"

August 19, 2017

Presenter:
Dani Peltier, LMSW, LCDC

Event Description:

The purpose of this workshop is to give participants an overview of the Rising Strong process used in the Shame Resilience Theory (SRT), which will offer the tools needed to recover from a setback. We will discuss the difficult emotions that often accompany this process, including vulnerability, shame, trust, grief, anxiety, and criticism. The goal is for participants to be able to implement this practice and other key learnings into their lives, in order to write a brave new ending to their story.

Dani Peltier headshotAbout the Presenter: Dani Peltier, LMSW, LCDC, is a Licensed Master of Social Work and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor with five years of experience specializing in addictions. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin. A year later, she decided to pursue her passion for counseling and began working with adults at Homeward Bound, Inc. in Dallas, TX, where she initially started in an outpatient setting and later transitioned to the residential crisis unit. In 2014, Dani moved to Houston, TX, to work for an alternative peer group, where she learned to use a family systems approach while working with adolescents and their families in recovery. While in Houston, she returned to school to obtain a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Houston's Graduate College of Social Work. While in graduate school, she interned at The Daring Way, where she was trained in the Shame Resilience Theory. Dani currently works with adults recovering from addictions and mental illness at The Heights. Developing a better understanding of how shame, vulnerability, empathy, and authenticity impact people's daily lives and interactions with others has helped her to grow both professionally and personally. She enjoys incorporating these concepts into her practice because she believes it addresses some of the core issues that lead to addiction and other mental health disorders.
