Shannon Padilla, DNP, is the co-director of Desert Flower, Sierra Tucson’s inpatient behavioral health unit. Dr. Padilla has been a member of the Sierra Tucson medical team since 2015, providing patient care in Desert Flower. She earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner degrees from New Mexico State University. Additionally, she has an Applied Science Degree in Business with a specialty in Medical Administration. Throughout her career, she has focused on nursing education, evidenced-based health promotion practices to improve patient care and outcomes, and medical administration. She has over 25 years of experience working in the mental health setting, including provision of bedside care, charge nurse, skilled unit supervisor, and independent psychiatric practitioner. Her special interests include prevention and treatment of intimate partner violence and the effects of this violence on mental health, education, developing and implementing innovations in care, geriatric psychiatry, and the advancement of the profession of mental health nursing.
