Genovese Appointment Furthers Synergistic Relationship between University

July 17, 2015

Recently appointed as a University of Arizona clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Sierra Tucson’s Chief Medical Officer, Michael V. Genovese, M.D., J.D., begins a relationship as a faculty member with this international medical research leader that he believes will bring mutual benefit. A long-standing supporter of the University, the Sierra Tucson curriculum will provide medical students and psychiatry residents at the College of Medicine with a richness and variety of clinical exposure not available anywhere else in a single rotation.

According to Dr. Genovese, Sierra Tucson presents opportunities for students to develop, and to cultivate a particular interest in a subspecialty of psychiatry, with the provision of clinical resources necessary to support an atmosphere nurturing of those aspirations. Having developed clinical and professional skills on our campus, many will undoubtedly seek to develop their careers further at Sierra Tucson.

“Via this formal affiliation with the medical school, I am eager to engage in true peer-to-peer relationships with other professors, both to inform our clinical care and to seek collaboration in meaningful research. The efficacy of neurobiological and psychotherapeutic interventions improves only under the constant scrutiny of the scientific method. The medical research currently conducted at The University of Arizona is unparalleled. We stand to learn much from the work they have already done and are excited to contribute to that which will be conducted in the future.”

“As the Chief Medical Officer of Sierra Tucson and a faculty member at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, it is incumbent upon me to cultivate the fertile ground where clinical and academic medicine meet. This is an honor for which I am immensely grateful.”

Sierra Tucson supports the mission of the University of Arizona Department Of Psychiatry, and we are inspired by the opportunity to collaborate for innovation in education, patient care, and research.
