Sierra Tucson’s Program for Sexual and Trauma Recovery
Trauma is the human mind’s attempt to cope with the unimaginable. In some cases, trauma can produce post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the survivor, with symptoms ranging from depression, anxiety, and drug and alcohol abuse to rage, dissociation and thoughts of suicide. Whether your trauma stems from past or present experiences, one-time or prolonged events, you shouldn’t have to face your trauma alone.
Sierra Tucson is a safe place for you as a trauma survivor to mourn past experiences and begin to reconnect with the world. In a nurturing environment that is trust- and esteem-building, our trauma recovery program provides integrated treatment for individuals suffering from the effects of abuse and trauma, as well as PTSD.
When you entrust your care to our trauma specialists, treatment will center around helping you separate your identity from your symptoms. With guidance from our compassionate staff, we will help you adopt coping mechanisms that contribute positively to your life and release those that were useful in helping deal with the trauma but are now contrary to healthy emotional functioning.
Throughout your time with us, you may participate in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), experiential therapies, psycho-educational presentations, psychopharmacological interventions, family systems work, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Somatic Experiencing®, as well as Equine-Assisted Therapy, Adventure Therapy and Psychodrama. These therapeutic modalities can help end the feeling of isolation you may be feeling and create a sense of acceptance and belonging.
